Travelling with Kiwi Experience

Since we’ve come back from our backpacking trip in New Zealand one of the things I have been asked most frequently is how we travelled around. The simple answer is by bus; more specifically the Kiwi Experience bus which we discovered in the STA travel brochure. Initially we liked the idea of travelling in a camper van but a bit of research suggested it was going to be much more expensive for just two of us and whilst in some ways we would have more flexibility, in other ways we would have less. Kiwi Experience is very much what you make of it and I feel like we learned more about it on the trip than we had done in advance. View Post

Top 10 New Zealand Experiences

I wrote a lot of posts about New Zealand whilst we were away, and each place that we visited contained new highlights and things that I’ll remember forever. When people ask what my favourite things to do and places to see were, I have some obvious memorable moments. However, the more I think about a certain place, the more I remember and usually end up decided that that was a highlight to. So, to make things a little easier. Here’s my New Zealand top ten that I’d recommend to anyone travelling there. View Post

Nelson

Nelson is said to be the sunniest city in New Zealand and it certainly lived up to its name – the weather was beautiful whilst we were there. We mainly decided to stay in Nelson to break up a few long days travelling but it was a nice place to spend a couple of nights. View Post

Christchurch

I’d heard mixed things about Christchurch so wasn’t quite sure what to expect and whether we’d have enough to do to fill our time there. As it was, our time there was cut short in order to spend extra time in Kaikoura but I easily could have spent longer in Christchurch and really liked the city. It is very much still in recovery from the 2011 earthquake but I found it to be a positive city which seems to be looking to the future. It’s actually a really exciting time to be there while the city rejuvenates. View Post

Kaikoura

Kaikoura is a small coastal town which is famous for its marine life. In 2016 the main roads to Kaikoura were cut off after an earthquake and even now the northbound road is still closed making it more difficult to get to as it’s no longer on the main route north. Although it’s a small and sleepy little town it’s definitely worth coming to visit and spending a few days here to make sure you can see all of the wildlife. View Post
