A short stay at Leaplish Waterside Park, Kielder

The benefit of going somewhere off season is that you can usually get a lot more for your money, or afford somewhere that you wouldn’t usually be able to. James and I had wanted to go to Kielder Observatory for a while and knew that this would involve an overnight stay. However, we discovered that lodges are much cheaper off season than they usually are so we decided to stay for a few days which meant that we could enjoy a long weekend in the area.

A Weekend in Kielder

Sometimes in life you just need to step back from everything. When work is busy, your diary is overflowing with things to do and places to see, and you just can’t quite turn off. It’s at times like this that I find it can be really soothing to spend some time outdoors and just relax. Our trip to Kielder came at exactly the right time, and was the perfect place to recharge my batteries.

In search of Red Squirrels

There is something rather special about red squirrels and I’ve always felt quite attached to them. Perhaps it was growing up in Cumbria, but I always enjoyed Beatrix Potter’s The tale of Squirrel Nutkin and at one point we had a red squirrel who lived in our back garden which was great. Because they are now so rare, it feels incredibly lucky if you have seen one. When we heard about a place in Scotland that had an abundance of red squirrels which you could get quite close to, it definitely seemed worth checking out.
