Christmas Markets: How to plan the perfect winter break

Christmas markets have fast become my favourite way to prepare for Christmas. The food, the stalls, the decorations, the gifts… there’s nothing quite like a Christmas market to put me in the mood for 25 December. For the past few years I have tried my hardest to go to one (last year I even went to one in Brisbane!) as I know it helps break up that long slog between the summer and a break at Christmas. A Christmas market can be a really good excuse to explore somewhere new and it’s also a really good way to get unique gifts for your family and friends. View Post

A Weekend in Cologne

Cologne was a city I never imagined returning to. I first went for a short city break to the Cologne Christmas marketsĀ one December which I really enjoyed, but thought I’d seen the city. More recently, I’ve been on a summer city break to Cologne and had a completely different, but just as enjoyable experience. There are certain sites which will be enjoyable regardless of the time of year, but this guide will also focus on the two different seasons as they have a completely different atmosphere. View Post

Cologne Christmas Markets

If you follow my blog, you’ll already know about my love for Christmas markets. This time last week I was in my element as I was visiting the Cologne Christmas markets which were every bit as magical as I had hoped. It was busy, in fact it was incredibly busy, but for very good reason. The markets were stunning, particularly at night, and it was a great experience to be able to absorb the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas. With a week to go until Christmas, I couldn’t be more in the mood. View Post

Bread and meat, the German diet

When I visited Heidelberg recently, I told my friend that I wanted an immersive cultural experience, and plenty of opportunity to sample local food. Naturally, this is what she provided, meaning that I ate a lot of meat and a lot of bread! View Post

A Long Weekend in Heidelberg, Germany

It’s been a few weeks since I returned home from Heidelberg, and only now am I finding the time to finish off my Germany related blog posts. This isn’t for lack of wanting to (believe me, I want to tell everyone I meet to visit Heidelberg), but real life just sometimes gets in the way. But now I have the time, hopefully you’ll enjoy my latest post on the delights that a weekend in Heidelberg can bring! View Post
