20 reasons why I’ll be embracing Autumn this year

Autumn isn’t my favourite season but I’m determined to do things differently this year. Here’s why I’m embracing Autumn and you should too.

An Autumn trip to Westonbirt Arboretum

Autumn is my least favourite season of the year. The days get shorter and darker, it gets colder (and quite often wetter) and people start talking about Christmas far too soon. It doesn’t really live up to the idyllic images of pumpkin patches, hot chocolates and trendy ankle boots which seem to be all over the internet. However, although I’ve never been autumn’s biggest fan, I do enjoy a sunny day when the leaves are on the turn – and Westonbirt Arboretum is the perfect place to go! I’d intended to go last year and ran out of time, so was determined we would make the time this year. View Post

An Autumn Weekend in Bakewell, The Peak District

Take 12 friends, who all have different jobs, different leave entitlements, who all live in different parts of England (and one currently in France), and try to organise a weekend together. It’s a little bit of a challenge. However, with a bit of discussion it was decided that autumn would be the best time to go. A weekend in October was selected, and then the next challenge was picking a location. It needed to be somewhere that wasn’t too far to drive from Cumbria, the North East, Bristol or London. It needed to have access to a train station, and possibly be near an airport. However we also wanted somewhere reasonably rural so that we could go out for walks in the countryside. Eventually it seemed like the Peak District was the place to go, and Bakewell offered us the opportunity to stay in the beautiful Haddon Villa. View Post

Some Musings on Autumn

I’m not really a fan of Autumn. In fact, I was more than happy to skip out on the season almost entirely when I headed to New Zealand at the start of October last year. Don’t get me wrong, a crisp, clear morning with colourful leaves in the trees can be beautiful, but more often than not the season doesn’t quite fit that idyllic image. The days get shorter, the weather gets colder (and usually wetter) and the shops are already selling things for Christmas even though it’s still months away. Some people might be ready for their ankle boots and pumpkin lattes but I’d much rather summer continued on for a while longer. View Post

An Autumn day at Acorn Bank

Autumn has never really been a time of year that I have appreciated before. In the past, autumn has always marked the end of summer, with colder weather and dark nights drawing in. This year however, the leaves seem to be brighter, and the trees have a greater mix of colours. It also hasn’t been quite as wet as I remember other years being, which always makes it more enjoyable! Anyway, when James last came to visit we decided to make the most of the autumn (and my new car!) and head to Acorn Bank National Trust property for a day out in the cool air. View Post
