Bank Holidays

Ah bank holiday weekends – a time that everyone looks forward to… Well actually, this is the first bank holiday weekend where I have been able to appreciate the fact that I get an extra day off work. In the past, I have either been working part time so it doesn’t make much difference, or I have worked in a pub and so the bank holiday has been spent working on one of the busiest days of the summer. This year however, I can sit back, relax and enjoy the weekend. View Post

Review: The Railway Children, York Theatre Royal

Last year, I went to York Theatre Royal’s summer show (Wind in the Willows) and I was not disappointed. A family friendly show which was both funny and interactive, it made you come out feeling good. This year, the theatre is undergoing refurbishment and as a result The Railway Children is being shown in the new purpose built Signal Box Theatre at the National Railway Museum. There really is no better way to see it and from arrival you feel immersed in the story having to walk past a range of trains to reach the theatre area. View Post

Life is a competition, but it’s not all about winning and losing

The older I get, the more I’m aware of life being a competition, which is ironic as it is a lot more subtle than it used to be. Back in primary school it was all about who got the highest percentage on an end of term test, or whose plant grew the most flowers. Now it is everything and anything, from friends and relationships to jobs and lifestyle. Social media most definitely doesn’t help – always encouraging you to have the most likes, friends or followers. Success has become a number, not a feeling. View Post

Colouring books and Mindfulness

For Christmas 2013 my boyfriend bought me a colouring book and a set of pens. I’d been looking for a colouring book for a while, having decided it might be a nice thing to do when I was feeling stressed, so it was a really thoughtful gift. However, everyone else (not that I particularly valued their opinion) though it was really weird. I wasn’t a child so why would I want a colouring book? View Post

Time to say goodbye…

I can see how this title might be misinterpreted, but don’t worry – I’ve only just started the blog, I’m not about to give it up now! Term is over, degrees are done, and in a very short space of time I have had a lot of goodbyes to make to people and places which have had a huge influence on my life over the past three years. The hardest goodbye, to my house, housemates, and the beautiful city of York is looming ever closer and however reluctant I am, it is something I will have to do. View Post
