A Few Thoughts on Baking

I aspire to be the sort of person who produces freshly baked good each week. Whether it’s tasty cakes or traybakes to offer to guests or colleagues, or fresh bread to enjoy in the morning, I’d love to be making new things and impressing people with my baking skill. Sadly, like many people, when there’s a list of other things to be done baking falls to the bottom of my to-do list and I rarely actually get round to it. However, a day off recently provided me with the perfect opportunity to get stuck in. I planned to spend the day baking in advance, so I wouldn’t feel guilty about doing so, and to make sure I had all the right ingredients (although typically I still ended up doing a mad dash to the shop after running out of something halfway through weighing it), and I’d forgotten how much joy…

Brunch at Yurt Lush, Bristol

I’ve said it before, and I’ll happily say it again – brunch is one of my favourite meals of the day. Associated by me with lazy weekends, exploring new places or seeing friends, brunch is a fun and tasty treat. I could quite happily spend every Saturday going to different trendy cafes and trying out their brunch options. However, my money would soon run out and if I did it all the time it wouldn’t quite feel as special, so for now it’s still an occasional thing. A friend coming to Bristol for the weekend was just the excuse I needed to try somewhere new and when a colleague suggested Yurt Lush to me, I decided not to look too much further.

A Weekend in Cologne

Cologne was a city I never imagined returning to. I first went for a short city break to the Cologne Christmas marketsĀ one December which I really enjoyed, but thought I’d seen the city. More recently, I’ve been on a summer city break to Cologne and had a completely different, but just as enjoyable experience. There are certain sites which will be enjoyable regardless of the time of year, but this guide will also focus on the two different seasons as they have a completely different atmosphere.

Review: Dishoom, London

When I’m visiting somewhere I love stumbling across new places that I’d never have found otherwise. It’s a great way to explore and makes everything feel a little more spontaneous. However, if I’ve heard good things about somewhere then I’m not going to be one to turn down an opportunity to go. After all, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush right?! When I was last in London my friends suggested heading to Dishoom for dinner and I just couldn’t resist it, despite the fact I knew it was going to be very busy without a recommendation. I’d only attempted to go once before and had been put off by the queue then, so decided that this time I would wait it out.

The Clifton Sausage

The Clifton Sausage is somewhere that I’ve passed on multiple occasions, and had always liked the look of it. If you’re a fan of classic pub grub, but fancy going somewhere slightly more upmarket then it’s the perfect place to go for a meal out. It certainly deserves the good reviews it gets!
