Every so often when exploring a new place you will walk into somewhere and, despite having never been there before, will feel completely at home. This happened to me and James when we went for a long weekend in Bradford. On the first night we popped into Brew Haus for a drink thinking that it looked quiet and quite nicely decorated, and we ended up returning the next night. We could have quite easily stopped by again on our final night but decided we ought to try somewhere else whilst we were there.
The first night was very quiet (possibly because it was a Thursday) which meant that we were served straight away. We each went for a cocktail and just enjoyed the warm and cosy atmosphere. There was plenty of choice on the cocktail menu and they also offer a range of specially brewed craft beers.
The second night we returned, but this time for food as well. We were expecting it to be busy so were concerned we wouldn’t get a table, but needn’t have been worried. Whilst it was busier than it had been the previous evening, compared to some of the bars we were used to in York, it was quiet for a Friday evening. We were spoilt for choice on the menu – whilst most of it was standard pub fare it all sounded good and we were expecting it to be decent quality. We weren’t disappointed!
I had a slow braised steak and dark ale pie, with mature cheddar mash, garden peas and bone marrow gravy. The picture makes it look a little boring, but it tasted wonderful and I did like the cute little pail that the gravy came in.
James opted for a beef burger in a brioche bun with melted Swiss cheese, dressed salad and fries.
We both had room for dessert afterwards (although I’m afraid I can’t quite remember what we had…) and were very satisfied with everything that we had been served.
On our way in we had spotted a pool table which was slightly separate to the restaurant and bar area so decided to stay a while longer and have a few games (accompanied by another cocktail each of course!).
The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff were friendly. Food and drink were both tasty and the sort of prices I would expect. The decor was a little quirky in places, but gave the bar a homely sort of feel. If I go to Bradford again, I will definitely return!
Good review, thanks. I sometimes am in Bradford for work so will try it.
