A New Chapter

“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”   –  Alexander Graham Bell

Anybody who knows me well, or who follows this blog, will know of my love for York. It is a place I began to call home four years ago when I started university, and somewhere that I never expected to get so deeply under my skin. I love the history which surrounds the city, the restaurants within it and the fact that there is always something going on. I love its size (not too big or too small), and I love its location in comparison to the rest of the UK, with most places being fairly easily accessible by train. A year ago I thought I was saying goodbye to York, but was lucky enough to find employment which meant I could stay in the city. This year I am saying goodbye to York, but hopefully not for good.

Sometimes life and circumstance take us in a direction we haven’t planned for, which is why I now find myself returning to Cumbria – something which I wasn’t really expecting. To begin with (and if I’m honest even now) this was tough to comprehend. I was leaving behind a place I felt was my home, leaving friends and a great ballroom team, to return to where I grew up. Surely I was taking a step backwards rather than forwards? What was I thinking?

Now I’m coming to terms with the decision I have made, and am beginning to look forward. I am going to start a new job which I am very excited about and will offer fantastic experience. I might be moving further away (distance-wise) from some of my friends, but I am moving closer to others. Whilst York was wonderful, there is no reason why I can’t return as a visitor or to live there again in the future. I’m starting to look for new opportunities and experiences in the area I am now in, which is what led to me going to an outdoor production the other night.

So what does this mean in terms of my blog? I know a lot of my previous posts have been about York, and I hope to still post about this wonderful city, but expect posts to now be a little more spread out over the North of England. It’s a new chapter, and I want to make the most of that open door!
